| Parachute cord, also known as paracord or 550 cord, is a lightweight nylon kernmantle rope originally used in the suspension lines of US parachutes during World War II. Once in the field, paratroopers found this cord useful for many other tasks. It is now used as a general purpose utility cord by both military personnel and civilians. This versatile cord was even used by astronauts during STS-82, the second Space Shuttle mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope. Paracord is growing in popularity in civilian applications due to its versatility in every-day use such as arts and crafts, survival accessories, and camping and outdoors, to dog leashes and dog collars. Each strand is approximately 1/8 inch thick, with a breaking strength of 550 lbs. (hence 550 cord). The Pooch Store uses military-grade Type III Paracord 550 exclusively in the production of our Paracord dog leashes and dog collars. A standard 6-feet leash weighs approximately 7 ounces. We use 4 strands of Paracord 550 that are inter-woven, resulting in a combined tensile strength of 2,200-lbs! Our Paracord Dog Leashes are capped-off with heavy duty snap hooks for added strength and security. We are happy to introduce to you, a light-weight and extremely comfortable leash that is rich in functionality, yet strong enough to tow a car. Made in the USA with pride and craftsmanship.
